I have a dedicated socket to remove the anode rod, drain plug now. I keep it in a certain spot with the rod/plug with it. Even during summer non use times. Ill awys drain after each use anyway, usually at the park. No reason to haul that weight.

That is odd. They are screwed on so you could add a spacer at the top of them, but that would also lower them closer to the road during travel so i would just take a block for each one.

If your talking about the hard plastic layer,it can be unscrewed. If your talking about the soft type, yes you can cut it. You can replace it too. And all of the insulation.
