Thanks. For us with the Satellite, it didn’t even come equipped with one of those anemic fans from the factory, so this is quite an improvement for us.

Well done! I put in a vortex II. We love it, compred to the anemic fan that came with the trailer, to begin with. Great job!

After finally receiving an undamaged Vortex II kit, I just updated another post on here that I have completed the fan upgrade to my roof vent successfully and enjoying the forward/reverse speeds on this Vortex II to help in the seasons we enjoy in the mountains and to stop the smoke alarm from going off every time we cook inside!. I also realized that some Satellite owners with the bath in the center, where mine is in the rear, are routing their wiring to their “bath light” to the side of the vent, similarly to my routing over the dinette in the 17RB.
Admittedly, it was my wife who noticed the roof vent crank mechanism has 2 locations on the fan housing, with my vent requiring moving the crank mechanism of the fan to the outside position to mate with the vent crank. There’s nothing on the box to note this and no instructions inside the box, which makes it a pain to hold the connected fan up at the ceiling while you switch the crank mechanism to the other location.

Thanks Kuba, after reviewing some other posts on here and the Jayco Forum, that I’m going to try the Vortex II upgrade (3 speed in/out model) to keep from breaking the roof seal while it’s still under warranty and hope I can fish the wiring through to the bath light circuit.

My trailer had constant power at all of the lights, with a switch on each light. I'm not versed on every trailer and every possible design, but, if you use a simple voltmenter or a 12v detector probe (light) you can probably find a close source of constant power (hopefully)

Sorry I saw your first post, I was hoping someone else with your trailer would chime in.

Not having any replies to confirm power at the existing non-powered vent, the location of one of the center lights above the kitchen does provide a very close power source. However, since that light is part of the entire string of 4 lights on a “switched” circuit, the fan will only run when that circuit is turned on. Not ideal for running the fan during the night, since you have to manually turn off each light in the string and then turn on each light when you need the light, but at least it works.

Pre-wired fo roof vent?

Post by partsbob » June 9th, 2019, 6:59 pm

Does anyone know if the 2018 Satellite already has 12v power at the factory roof vent location? I desperately want to change the non-powered vent to a Fantastic vent, but don’t want to fish wiring through the roof.
