I attached a towel bar ( with 4 hooks on it) above the stool. It's very solid and works well. You just have to put it up high enough to allow the towels to clear the stool. I also moved the TP holder from the door to the left side of the toilet wall, about shoulder highth. It gives more room while entering/exiting the bath room.

I wanted to attach a towel bar to the wall but I also did not like the thin wall structure. I made a ‘towel bar mount plate’ from wood and finished it to match the rest of the cabinets. I wanted to glue the mount plate to the wall over a much greater contact area.

I attached the towel bar mounts to the wood plate, and used gorilla glue to fasten the wood plate to the wall. I used mounting screws to also mechanically attach the wood plate to the wall. I did not want those screws to show, so I was forced to ‘hide’ them under the towel bar mount locations. I remember one side (by happenstance) screwed into a 1x1 stud, the other just into the wall.

It is the relative large surface area of the wood plate plus gorilla glue that provides the attachment strength to the wall. It also stiffens the thin wall considerably.

This has worked out very well for me.

We successfully used two of those larger 3M command strip hooks to hold our full sized bath towels.

It should have studs. Granted they are only 1 by 1s. Use a stud finder and you should have no problem with a towel rack.

Bathroom towel Rack

Post by michaelbaird48 » February 7th, 2016, 12:01 am

We now have a 26RLS. The bathroom doesn't seem to have a wall strong enough to hold a towel rack. Has anybody mounted a towel rack on this kind of wall? Any help appreciated. Thanks
Michael
